New Year’s Update!- Editorial Calendar

Posted on February 02, 2015 by Kara in Social Media

In keeping with the theme for the week, we thought we’d take this opportunity to fill you in our progress so far with sticking to our New Year’s Resolution—particularly our editorial calendar! Are you sick of us talking about those yet?

I’ve been working with Slanted for about three months now. And when I started, I didn’t have a whole lot of experience with social media marketing. I mean, I have Facebook page. And I look at Pinterest occasionally. But I really had no idea how to use that to do what we do. Even until recently, I didn’t really feel like I knew what I was doing. I would write a blog post that Jensie told me to write, using the points she gave me and call it a day. But now that we’ve gotten really good at using our editorial calendar, I don’t need her to babysit me. I can take initiative and get to work on blog/SM stuff without her hovering over my shoulder. Here are three things that I’ve really seen improve since we got serious about our editorial calendar:

Efficiency

With this in mind, we’ve become much more efficient. Jensie’s free to worry about other things, while I tackle the SM stuff. With the editorial calendar, she can approve all my blog/SM post ideas all at once, so when it comes time to post, it’s just a matter of copy and paste. It’s great!

Planning Ahead

This has also increased efficiency in that I know what blog posts are coming up. This way, I can think about it on my own time and kind of get an idea of what I want to say in the upcoming blogs. It makes the actual blog-writing so much easier when it comes time to get a post ready. No more writer’s block! (Okay, there’s still some writer’s block, but not as much.)

Cohesiveness

While I do have a little more responsibility in finding articles to post and what blogs to write, Jensie has access to the editorial calendar at all times. (Thank you, Google Docs!) This has helped keep us together. We can both see our monthly/weekly themes, or upcoming posts, and if either of us stumbles on something we can post, we just put it in to the calendar to posted later. It’s been so easy and, to be honest, quite fun. I highly recommend it.

So there you have it. This will be our last bit about editorial calendars for a little while. But we hope you get it through your heads—if you want to do your own social media, an editorial calendar is so so so so imporant! And again, don’t hesitate ask for help!
